   Eshan wrote @ November 15th, 2006 at 5:11 pm

I have heard many people say that Africa has poverty and does not have a very strong economic system in some of the countries. What is the main cause to this? Why is a majority of Africa still rural and weak in infrastructure?

   Nick wrote @ November 15th, 2006 at 5:21 pm

I know that there are several modern languages spoken in Africa (French, German, Portuguese, English, etc.) and tribal languages. I just want to know why.

I noticed that on my knowledge table that we had to fill out today, that i had nothing for Africa’s government. I have read somewhere that Africa’s political leaders grow rich exporting oil whilst their people are being ravaged by starvation and malaria. I want to know whether this is true or not as i truly cannot imagine standing and watching someone suffering when i have the power to ease it.

Why is africa so poor, what makes it so poor? Also why are their so many diseases? Also while are the people in africa more vulnerable?

   Bhargavi wrote @ November 15th, 2006 at 8:49 pm

My dad has a picture of a boy dying of malnourishment in a poverty-struck area of Africa. The boy even has a hole in his stomach. Below the picture there is a caption that says “The photographer died 2 months after taking this picture due to depression. His last words were ‘I will never waste my food’” This picture had touched me deeply because everyday students in ISB are fortunate enough to buy (and CHOOSE) what they want to eat. Most of us don’t finish our food hence we throw it away. However in Africa people are ready to kill to eat- they barely get one meal a day. Why do we not value food as much as the poor people in Africa?

   Ica wrote @ November 15th, 2006 at 9:35 pm

I heard that there’s a place where people would just wait and stand in a certain place and they would wait for certain people to call them if they needed people for a temporary job.
Is this true? Is their economy system that bad?

   visarut wrote @ November 15th, 2006 at 10:17 pm

is there only one language used in Africa?

   robin wrote @ November 15th, 2006 at 10:35 pm

I’ve heard that some parts of Africa are poor and there’s a lot of Poverty. For example, people don’t have clean water to drink and children don’t have enough to eat. Also people are suffering Malaria, Yellow Fever, Dengue and Aids + HIV. Is the Government doing anything about this?

   Nick wrote @ November 16th, 2006 at 8:47 am

No one believes me when i say this but the deadliest animal in Africa is…

The Mosquito! That’s right and is all because of Malaria there are just too many of them to use repellant but there is medication. I know this because when I lived in Africa I had to take it every week. It tastes terrible

   Nick wrote @ November 16th, 2006 at 8:50 am

Also on the languages there are about 5,000 different languages spoken in Africa (tribal languages included) but lots of them are similar.

   Gavin wrote @ November 16th, 2006 at 10:41 am

How many languages are spoken in Africa?

   Nick wrote @ November 16th, 2006 at 5:09 pm

Did you know that Eruope, China and the U.S. could all fit in Africa with lots of room to share.

   Nick wrote @ November 16th, 2006 at 5:14 pm

sorry I just realized this but my comment had a misspelled word. I guess I am just typing too fast for my brain to think so here is the correct one

Prin people in Some places in Africa do have electronics its not like every one thinks it is where there is no electricity at all but the little villages that don’t have electronics usually have games like spear throwing and anyway there are so many jobs in the villages that it is hard not to be doing any thing.

   Sabrinaaaa. wrote @ November 22nd, 2006 at 2:00 pm

i dont get why people see Africa as a poor country.

i dont think that the whole country itself is poor but maybe some countries in africa have little knowlege of economics resulting in less money for the economy.

   Sara G. wrote @ January 11th, 2008 at 12:17 am

If Africa is so rich in gold, crops and many trading goods, why is it not the world leader in trade?
