blogging…why?
Notes from the Conference Session on Blogging:
Why Blog? – David Larson – Shanghai 2.008
- The non=synchronous nature…the kid can read and respond in their own pace/time and comfort zone, as opposed not being able to “take his time with it” and feel rushed
- Then you don’t get vague rushed responses…but feedback becomes a little more specific
- Gives kids time to process things
- You can harness their desire to interact with each other…they find it motivating
- A 24/7 writer’s workshop
- Quick feedback
- Blogger, wordpress, (tinyurl.com/yvv807 – to see a list)
- The tighter the controls on the blog…the less the kids will get involved with it…so let them have some freedom
- He gives participation points…a check list of how many comments..not some much the comments they made.
- Tell the kid they can ask others to give feedback, and they can tell others what to feedback about…e.g.: Do you understand what the story is about? etc.
